FinTech West takes part in national FinTech conference in Edinburgh

Professor Jonathan Beaverstock speaks at the UK FinTech Symposium 2022, Gogarburn, Edinburgh.

In his capacity as an ESRC IAA Knowledge Exchange Fellow, Jon represented FinTech West (and the University of Bristol) at the UK FinTech Symposium 2022 on 23rd November, bringing together FinTech entrepreneurs, innovators and stakeholders to accelerate the UK’s national and global ambitions in financial technology.

Jon was a speaker and panelist at the session, ‘UK FinTech Regional Leadership Examples: Growing Regional Clusters’, sharing the stage with leading members of the FinTech National Network: Sarah Williams-Gardener (FinTech Wales); Hilary Smyth-Allen (SuperTech West Midlands); Julian Wells (FinTech North); Chris Jessup (FinTech NI); and Nicola Anderson (FinTech Scotland). 

There were more than 150 delegates at the Symposium held at OX (Open Experience) Edinburgh, NatWest Gogarburn, including Andrew Bowie MP Minister Department for International Trade, Charlotte Crosswell OBE (Chair, Open Banking Implementation Entity and the newly appointed Chair of the UK Government’s Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology), Janine Hirt and Stephen Browning (Innovate UK), and Ian Phoenix (FCA).

Jon spoke about the importance of regional clusters driving innovation in financial services and technology, and the crucial role that Universities like Bristol play in nurturing talent pipelines, but importantly also in research and development, knowledge exchange and transfer, and civic responsibilities.
